Privacy Policy

Cohort (“Cohort,” “we,” “us”) is a free academic community for Boston University students. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We keep it plain-language on purpose.

What we collect

When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from your Google account. We use your email to confirm you are a Boston University student (an @bu.edu address). We also store content you create in the community, such as chat messages and any resources you post.

How we use it

We use your information solely to (1) verify your BU affiliation and grant access, (2) operate the community, for example showing your name next to your messages and personalizing your experience, and (3) communicate with you about the service. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.

Where it lives

Your data is stored with the service providers that run Cohort: Supabase (database & authentication), Vercel (hosting), Google (sign-in), Resend (email delivery), and, for live sessions, Zoom. Each processes data only to provide their part of the service.

Your choices

You can delete your account yourself: open your profile in Cohort and choose Delete my account. It removes your profile, messages, and settings right away. For a copy of your data, write to us on the Support page, and we will act on verified requests within a reasonable time.

Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your profile and content, except where we are required to retain certain records.

Students & eligibility

Cohort is intended for Boston University students. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes

We may update this policy as Cohort grows. Material changes will be posted here with a new “last updated” date.
